PSC succeeded in helping an importer from the West Bank in re-exporting blocked "Threads' " shipment back to Jordan

The PSC succeeded in helping an importer from the West Bank in re-exporting "Threads' " shipment back to Jordan, instead of being confiscated by the Israeli customs on Allenby Bridge. The Israeli customs on the crossing blocked the consignment pertaining that it is originated from Syria although it was originally produced in Jordan. Neither the importer nor the clearance agent was able to convince the customs authority to obtain an order to clear the shipment, despite having all supporting documents from the Jordanian Authority. Thereafter, the importer requested PSC assistance in solving the problem. PSC succeeded in releasing the goods and having it returned back to Jordan. This result came after exerting tremendous efforts to persuade officials and customs authority not to confiscate the consignment. The PSC is continuously working to help its members in solving the problems they face with their shipments.

PSC obtains reduced storage & handling fees for Palestinian traders at Bonded 207

The continuous Israeli closure of Karni commercial crossing point between the Gaza Strip and Israel has been inflating costs for Palestinian traders, who are forced to rent storage areas at prohibitive prices. This was the case of the Gaza-based Balousha Fashion Company that rented a storage area at bonded 207 (warehouse at Ashdod port) for its forty feet container at a prohibitive fee that was equivalent to 15% of the market value of the stored goods. These costs come on top of the handling costs, including the unloading of the shipment, demurrage cost, pallets, forklift and storage.

The company owner approached the PSC for assistance after weeks of fruitless attempts through his agent to reduce the storage fees. The PSC succeeded in obtaining a 38% discount following a series of negotiations with the relevant authorities. In so doing, it created a precedent for Palestinian traders with similar problems. The council will also contact China Shipping - Israel in order to refund some or all the undue charges for demurrage following the expiry of free days.
